The Stars Came Out

We may have been in North Hollywood but the "Stars" were definitely out for the 9th Annual Old English Sheepdog Rescue Parade. Marilyn Mayfield, OESCA member and President of the Burbank Kennel Club posed with celebrity look a likes Mae West and WC Fields along with some of the rescue dog participants. Held on Saturday, August 31, 2002, the Burbank Kennel Club Dog Show was again the gracious host for our parade and raffle.


Unusually high temperatures and humidity in Southern California did not dampen the spirits of the participants but may have kept some of the 25 entries home for the day. Beautiful shade trees on the show grounds of Valley College and an occasional welcomed breeze tried to keep everyone comfortable. Lots of water and misters were used to help keep both the dogs and the people cool. The show announcer introduced each rescue by name and age and told how they came into rescue. Marilyn Mayfield posed for a "winners" picture and presented a rosette to each of the happy owners and their dogs. Four of our rescues in the parade were over 10 years old!



In the true Hollywood style of the show must go on, we had a "Stand In" for one of our rescue dogs that could not attend. Part of the family pulled a little red wagon with a life-size stuffed OES around the ring and posed for the photos. We saw many old and new OESCA members who made themselves available to help with questions on training, behavior and grooming.


Our parade and raffle were a big success and our thanks go out to the OESCA members who spent so many hours helping us with set up and ticket sales. A big thank you to all for your donations and especially to our sponsors: Precision Pet Products, Tommy Hilfinger, The FrameStore, Donna Karen, and General Cage. It is everyone working together that makes the event a success!

It was a marvelous time and we wish all of you could have been there to experience the LOVE these dogs were getting from not only their owners but the large audience who came to watch the parade. The Burbank and Simi Valley Kennel Clubs 4 day Labor Day Classic weekend (held for the first time this year) is a wonderful addition to the Southern California dog show scene.
