New Homes:

Where Are They Now?

We wanted to show you a few of our rescue dogs in their new settings!

Penny: The Herding Queen - born Dec. 1995

Penny's first family only lasted 3 months (in the Navy and moved to Europe). A very nice couple with a baby tried very hard to have Penny be a member of their family. Penny has a lot of energy so they hired a very misguided trainer, who charged them hundreds of dollars and used a shock collar on Penny with very poor results. The family finally accepted that Penny would not fit in with them and contacted us.

Penny came into rescue in February 1998 and was placed with a new family (June OE Times). Unfortunately in the end of May, the man had a massive heart attack with chances for a full recovery very slim.

Penny came back into our rescue program. After her vet check, she went to her foster home with Heidi Graham. Heidi takes her foster dogs everywhere with her and Penny was very excited watching Heidi and Nigel's weekly herding lesson. Ted, Heidi's herding instructor let Penny work the sheep at the end of each class. Penny took to herding right away and Ann Rambaud heard us talking about "Our Herding Queen".

The rest is history....they fell in love at herding class. Ann plans on Penny doing obedience and agility (she already made it up her first A-frame, Penny that is, Ann is still working on accomplishing that feat). We hope to hear more about Penny's herding adventures with Ann in the future.

Update on Penny -

September 2002
Penny's owner Ann and Shelby's owner Ray got married in 2002 and moved to British Columbia Canada. (Shelby is another So Cal OES Rescue girl.) A big Congratulations! Ann sent us the photos below of Penny doing agility -- look at her go!

Skippy: Gucci's Newest Model

There is a very hip, trendy fashion magazine called "Detour". The May 1998 issue (Antonio Sabata, Jr. on the cover) has a series of pictures of dogs that volunteer for the local SPCA therapy program modeling new sunglasses. Looking spectacular in Gucci sunglasses is OES Rescue of So Cal's own Skippy. On July 18, 1997, we picked him up in a San Bernadino County shelter and all the history we had was the name Skippy, a 1.5 year old male, and that he was too big.

Amy Myers adopted him on July 25th, Skippy went through obedience, and what a difference a year makes!. His name certainly hasn't stopped him. Who would have guessed he would go on to a big modeling career and earning money for the SPCA therapy program?

Dexter: World Wide Woof

Dexter was adopted on May 16, 1998 and the adoption became official on May 23 (7 day waiting period). Dexter now lives with Olive.

Quite a change for Dexter from being in the Camarillo Animal Shelter in April. Christine said to tell all rescue volunteers to be careful how one dresses and looks when you go to meet for an adoption -- you never know who will have a digital camera and put you on the internet.

Becky: An OES Makeover

Becky came into rescue on February 2, 1993 as her owners could no longer care for her. And we took her first photo.

Becky was spayed, given all her shots, and a badly needed full-body shave. On February 13, 1993 she was adopted by her new family. And we took her second photo.

When we got this photo just before Christmas 1993 (a mere 10 months later) we almost didn't recognize her! What a makeover!
