Lucky 13th Annual Rescue Paradeby Jane Dempsey, OES Rescue of Southern California, Inc. Our weekend started off with our big raffle on Saturday, September 30th. Our wonderful hosts, the Burbank Kennel Club Dog Show put on a magical weekend with mild temperatures which kept all the exhibitors very comfortable. The show had lots of spectators and we had quite a crowd around the booth buying tickets from OESCA members Diane Reynolds and Karen Roth. Our thanks to the many raffle prize donors. As the groups started, it was time for the winning tickets to be pulled out of the cans.  OES Rescue dogs started arriving early Sunday morning, October 1st, 2006 for the parade. The camaraderie among the people and dogs was a sight to behold. There were discussions about grooming, obedience and living with Old English Sheepdogs in general. Our parade really brings out the Òying and yangÓ of the Old English Sheepdog world. Many people recognized others from past parades while others made new friends. We held a small raffle of OES items and had our sales table with our new Christmas cards.
Retsel and Daphne represented the alumni of 1993. Taggard and Benny did honor to the class of 2006. With representatives from every year in between, 38 Old English Sheepdogs made up the participants of our Lucky 13th Annual Rescue Parade. We also had a few OES family reunions – Heidi (our Mom who gave birth to 7 pups in the animal shelter 3 years ago) spent some time with 5 of her 7 puppies. One-year-olds, Bella and Betsy got to see their older full sister who inspired the OE Times story, "One telephone call equals 10 rescue dogs". Marilyn Mayfield, OESCA member presented the ribbons and posed for a photo with each OES rescue dog. We did have a few stragglers who arrived late due to our LA traffic jams but got to join in on most of the festivities. We are so grateful to our parade sponsors: General Cage, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karen, Cathy Wills, Garrison Financial and Andy Plisko and to OESCA members Marilyn and Kristi Marshall and Terry Kaufman who spent the weekend multi-tasking as raffle workers, ring stewards, presenters and photographers, thank you! thank you!
